Define a SQL Server Database Audit Action

Use the SQL Server Database Audit Specification Database Audit Action Editor in a SQL Server physical model to define the actions on the database to audit and for whom.

To define a SQL Server database audit action

  1. Click Target - SQL Server, Database Audit Specifications on the Model menu.

    The SQL Server Database Audit Specification Editor opens.

  2. Select the database audit specification in the Navigation Grid for which you want to define a database audit action.
  3. Click the General tab and then click the erw_hlp--database audit action editor button--SCR button in the Database Audit Actions area.

    The SQL Server Database Audit Specification Database Audit Action Editor opens.

  4. Select the database audit action in the Navigation Grid that you want to define and work with the following options:

    Click New New icon in property editors to create a new object on the toolbar to create a new database audit action. Use the Enter filter text box to filter a very large list of database audit actions to quickly locate the one that you want to define. Use the drop-down control to select another database audit specification.

    Name

    Specifies the name of the database audit action. Change the name of the database audit action in this field.

    Audit Object

    Specifies the database object to audit. Make a selection from the drop-down.

  5. Click the General tab and work with the following options:
    Actions

    Specifies the actions on the database to audit. Select or clear check boxes for specific actions to audit.

    Principals

    Specifies the principals of the database for which to audit database actions. Select or clear check boxes for specific principals.

    Click an icon to sort the list or to open one of the security editors (User ID user id editor icon , Application Role application role editor icon , or Database Role database role editor icon ) to further define a principal.

  6. (Optional) Click the Comment tab and enter any comments that you want to associate with the object.
  7. (Optional) Click the UDP tab to work with user-defined properties for the object.
  8. (Optional) Click the Notes tab to view and edit user notes.
  9. Click Close.

    The database audit action is defined and the SQL Server Database Audit Specification Database Audit Action Editor closes.
